There is a additive put in concrete slabs to make it stronger fibermesh[chopped up fiberglass].has anyone here ever used it with resin to put in a fin box, leash cup etc.
I am no specialist, but I think that (at least a few years ago) fin-boxes -and some fins, too- were made of fiberglassed reinforced polycarbonate, which means pretty much what you describe: finely chopped fiber wetted in a resin whether it is a thermosetting such as polyester or thermoplastic such as polycarbonate. That’s what you use, too, together with (or in place of) Q-cell for setting fin-boxes in the blank, or leash-plugs. Am I right?
Took a class in concrete back in college and saw something like that, seems like that stuff was very coarse, like fiberglass you would use laying up boat hulls etc, and it was very dirty (yellow/brown). Think you would be better off using the tried and true methods…
I will most likely stick with the tried and true method, but was wondering if anyone has tried it with this material or something like it. the fibermesh that I saw was slightly course but white in color. It looked like chopped up heavy oz. cloth. Thanks for the feed back.I might try doing a leash cup in a scrap piece of foam to test it.
I use Fibermesh all the time in my concrete. White chopped strands about 2-3" long. You can get a small bag of it from just about any concrete supplier. Inexpensive.
nicko milled fibre is used all the time in fin plug setting resin. in fact in australia the milled fibre is supplied by fcs with manufacturers sets
You know it’s really not too hard to make your own chopped fiberglass. I do it all the time. Just take a piece of cloth. Hold it over a receptacle. Cut it up with sharp scissors and collect the bits and pieces as they fall. Mix it up with fresh resin and voila. Make as much or little as you need. DIY!
