Fibreglass Wrinkles

I have a 100 meter roll of 6 oz glass that has some subtle wrinkles. They don’t come out when you laminate with it. They seem to run lengthwise through the whole roll (I’m on my 5th board with this stuff). I’ve tried ironing the glass which helps (not sure if this does anything bad to it). Steam ironing seems to make them worse. I got this glass relatively cheap and I think I know why. I’m dealing with this but I’d rather not be. Any ideas?

Toss it out. No solutions. You get what you pay for.

make fins or a boat… ambrose

how wide is the roll? Could be lots of things you can do with it, depending on how much of it is between the wrinkles. hope that’s of use doc…

You could sell it to me I am just looking for supplies for my own use but if you are measuring in meters I probably couldn’t afford the shipping.

Howzit j Gulick, A little trick I use with wrinkled glass. After laying down the glass on the blank use a squeegee to smooth out the wrinkles before you laminate. Another trick is during lamination of the board angle your squeegee so the resin is pushed out toward the rail. I’ve learned to deal with wrinkled glass since Young Bros freight has a tendency to load the box on end during shipping from Oahu and this causes the glass to slide and wrinkle on the roll. Thanks for the suggestions everyone. My roll is a meter wide so I have heaps extra to use for fins. I’m in Northland, New Zealand - I don’t imagine you would want me to ship this to you. I’m using epoxy resin which I prime and paint so with a lot of extra work I get the wrinkles out. It would be great to squeegie them out though. I’m off to give it a try on the deck. I really appreciate all the great discussion that goes on here at Swaylocks.
