Fin Box installation

What is the best fin box to install on a board that has broken glassed on fins. A combo of price, strength, and ease of installation. Can anyone tell me a step by step procedure to install them easily.

Maverick, After removing the damaged fins, restore the bottom of the board. Fill any damaged areas and re-glass. Then install your fin system just like you would on a new board. There’s a book called “Ding Repair Scriptures” which gives detailed instructions on this subject. Fin Solutions or FCS “plug” style systems are easy to install. -Rick

Rick, do they require any special tools, or can I do them with what I have in my garage, the normal tools.

Maverick, at a minimum you’ll need a 30mm holesaw and drill motor. An installation template would make it a lot easier too. FCS makes an install kit which is very expensive. Tho I know guys who install without the kit. The phone number on the kit I have is (858)490-4353. -Rick

to make a good template for the fcs plugs take a piece of wood and stick on it the fcs two rings sticker that exactly reproduces the distance between the two holes an drill the holes. Installing FCS without the kit is cheaper but risky, and most of the time gives imperfect results. For a used/broken board may be OK but be very careful and precise when making holes. You can sand away the hot coat and re-glass glasson fins again, it probably takes less especially if you use SunCure in the resin
