Fin Box placement on 7'8"

Hi guys. Got a question. Have a 7’8" miniLB sitting on the racks ready to glass. Problem is I only have a short FU box for it. So I will basically have a glassed in position with the ability to change the fin itself. How far up from the tail should the box go. I am thinking 6"-6.5" or so. Also, can I put it in before lamenting the board? I have always done it after up till now? Which is better? Thanks ahead of time for the help. ed

Ed: I’d agree with Herb, hot coat and then set it in. Lately I’ve been putting the O’fishl’s in after the lam, then putting a layer of cloth on top, THEN hotcoat. I got tired of cleaning the blank up from all of the debris when setting them directly in the foam. I’ll mail you a 10.5" if you want, have an extra. If you decide to wait until the hotcoat to put it in, let me know. Tom S.>>> Hi guys. Got a question. Have a 7’8" miniLB sitting on the racks > ready to glass. Cdb is going to put the plugs in for me. So no need the box Tom, thanks for the offer though. Will probably pick up some essentials while at the beach this weekend. Thanks again guys. ed
