This is a preferred method of thinning tail foam. You can mount the box sticking a little out of the bottom of the board, then sand it flush. You must leave enough of the inner fin-nut ledge that, after sanding, the ledge won’t break under fin-nut pressure. O’Fishl fin boxes have a glass ledge. You’re supposed to laminate onto the glass ledge. If you mount one of these boxes shallow, and want to laminate it in, you’ll have to grind the glass ledge down tho the foam level. Most boards have enough rocker that some box grinding is in order, no matter how shallow you mount the box.
