Fin Boxes

While this may seem like a silly question, i actually found myself wondering this. Will any fin, designed for a fin box, fit into your standard fin box? Since I’ve only ever used rainbow fins i actually dont know the answer. That being said, what would anyone recommend for a semi modernized single fin shortboard (6’6") with a rider thats 6’2" 200#

Rightcoaster,

6-6 for a 6-2, 200 pounder? Should’a been a fat, funky twinny for you at 6-6.

But, since it be a single, check out www.trueames.com As I’ve said before, they make a bunch of beautiful fins for every board imaginable and they fit standard (FU type) boxes. If you can swing it, buy two and play with placement - front to back.

Their foils and finishes are the best I’ve seen. Opening the box from UPS is like a mini Christmas present in ___ (add month here).

Service is quick and reasonable - be sure to give all color choices offered as they sometimes are out of specific colors.

Pete

I would buy from fins unlimited they make the best looking fins around . plus they are still made in the USA unlike TA

PeteHarwood, i have a 5’10" twinny that rides perfectly well for me, and 6’6" was what my shaper thought would be best. I was just looking for an opinion on the fin, not on my board choice.

Rightcoaster,

Was a quick, off the cuff attempt at humor. Sorry if you took it the wrong way. I was in no way trying to critique your board choice.

My reply was only to help you broaden your choices of fins which will fit a std. box.

Pete,

Sorry to snap at you, just had a rough night dealing with the guy shaping my board pushing the deadline its supposed to be due further and further back.

Howzit Rightcoaster, FCS fin box fins don't fit right in Bahne boxes. For some reason FCS made their boxes a little bit different in size ( big mistake ) so only their fins fit correctally in their boxes. Aloha,Kokua

Bahne finbox fins are 0.350" wide

Futures and FCS fins are 0.250" wide

1 layer of 6 oz glass is roughly 0.01" wide

Howzit blakestah, I think FCS made a big mistake by not making their fin boxes so other fins would fit. FCS box fins are way more expensive than the other brands so who would want to install a box that takes a more costly fin. They gave me one of their fin box set ups and a few boxes but I’ve never used them because of the reasons above. Aloha,Kokua
