fin design

Just finished two boards; a 9’0" progressive shape longboard (The same one I had streaky paint problems with; came out so nice I duplicated the effect on the second board! A mistake turned good!)and a 7’4" hybrid. Both are 2 7/8" thick with tapered foil in the noses and tails. Both have a 2+1 fin setup. The longboard is 16.5 x 22 x 13.75, and slight hips at 16" up from its square tail. The hybrid is 13.5 x 20.85 x 13.25 and slight vee in the back third with a round pin tail. Right now I’ve got pretty much stock center fins with a 7.5 for the longboard and a 6.5 for the hybrid. Question: I want to make a couple of custom fins and was wondering if anyone here has any design ideas that I might try. I know the cutaway shapes are pretty popular for longboards; I’ve never tried one but could give it a shot. Any other ideas?

Hey Lobster, Cutaways work great if you balance sizes and templates (there are lots of them) out well. If you want to email me I share some photos and fin ideas with you. Mahalo, Rich (Halcyon Custom Fins)
