"Fin-ers"

I always hear about the master shapers and glassers in the industry, past and present. What about the guys grinding out the fins? Are there any surfers that stand out because of their skill in fin making?

George Greenough. I read somewhere that pretty much all surfboards today are using a variation of a fin designed by George Greenough. Single-fin, thruster, twin, etc. Thanks George!

Georges fins havent been so successful just because of a reduction in overall area, shape, foil or application of materials… but as a result of his revolutionary understanding and introduction of fine-tuned, “active” flex…

“HERB”

George Greenough. you may want to add Paul Gross to this list,as he is from the Greenough camp and has developed some very interesting and board specific fins that rip! Also Greg Liddle who is totally committed to the flex fin concept and foils some awesome ones!

“HERB” …don’t turn that off!..I wasn’t sleeping…I was only resting my eyes,…ooops. Most people that make there own fins are sadly over looked, the list is endless ,and if I miss someone here IT’S BECAUSE of the sheer number of finners out there…First…Jim Phillips,I say this because of his statement when he remembered foiling some 455 fins in one night for approx. 35 cents a fin.(that takes balls, and a lot of itching). Most of the classic builders, built there own at one time or another like,Noll,Velzy, etc. Then there’s designers like,Brewer,Lis,Downing,Hynson,Hamilton,Greenough,ETC.To guys like the Campbell’s,Steve Brom,Paul Jensen and the list goes on forever!!!It’s nice to see someone acknowledging this group of forgotten …itchy, and scratchy bunch.Herb.
