help. Im trying to replace the original-type fin of a 7ft. 1967/68? McTavish style, Surfboards Hawaii/ Hawaii Surfboards? vee-bottom. As far as i can tell the best fin is similar to a True Ames Greenough stage 4? maybe a 10inch? but ive heard that back then they went too deep to 12inches etc. I’d like to ride the board as best as it will go as it is in good shape. I can email pictures as well. Much Mahalo to all. Aloha, YAV.
I have a Surfboards Hawaii V-Bottom…I can go out to the shed and measure / describe the fin tommorow. Maybe even take a photo. http://www.surfinfo.com.au/b_pages/knboard.htm
The Ames 10’’ or 10.5 Greenough should do it.Some nice photos of Billy Hamilton in France on Surfboards Hawaii V bottom in one of the Surfers Journels.I have a 7 ’ 11’’ stringerless Miget Farrelly V from Aust. Its in the Surf Culture art show If you saw it.Those fins are very close.
a friend has a 7’9" surfboards hawaii v-bottom, with original fin.he has built three copies of it, all utilizing the 9.75 greenough(by true ames).
I would love to see it too. Could you provide board measurements, rail foil, etc…? -C
It’s rainy and there are some little waves, but I can try to get out to the shed this afternoon.
sorry for the delay…I’ll try to take some photos and post a new thread later in the week so it doesn’t get lost.
