Can anyone make a suggestion on a fin and size of fin for a new 7’ Lauren Yater rounded pin single fin. Great board for those hollow, fast waves. Board is kind of a “retro” style board.

Ted, Here are a few that IMHO will serve just fine. http://www.rainbowfins.com/surf_fins.htm (7.5" TK Flex) http://www.trueames.com/waynerich.htm (Wayne Rich 7.5" center) http://www.trueames.com/californiaclassic.htm http://www.trueames.com/l-flex.htm (you could go as deep as 8.5" with this one depending on your board. I make a stiffer version of it. This is a great template one of the fastest I’ve ever surfed.) I think 7 to 8 inches of fin will be right in there for you, but without knowing the specks of the board it’s tough to pin things down and remember that you’ll probably want to change around for different conditions. I have my own templates of course butall the above will be excellent choices. Good Surfin’, Rich
The board is 7’. 2 7/8" thick, and 20 3/8" wide. Would a 9" L-Flex be too large?>>> Ted,>>> Here are a few that IMHO will serve just fine.>>> http://www.rainbowfins.com/surf_fins.htm (7.5" TK Flex)>>> http://www.trueames.com/waynerich.htm (Wayne Rich 7.5" center)>>> http://www.trueames.com/californiaclassic.htm>>> http://www.trueames.com/l-flex.htm (you could go as deep as 8.5" with > this one depending on your board. One thing to remember about fins is that too much fin just slows you down, makes the board stiff, and deedens the action. Too little and you just slide around and don’t have to much control or drive. If want a lot of power go with the 9" but I think it may be over kill. 8 or 8.5 is probably enough. Just put it all the way on the tail when the walls get steep. The you can always move the fin around to change the action of the board to suit the conditions. If the rails are hard you’ll need less fin. If there old-school you’ll need more. Good Surfin’, Rich
