fin identification

A friend found this fin. Can anyone identify it and does it have any value?

thanks, Dan

The value should be determined by you and only after you ride it!!!

It looks like a fin from a Waveset fin box, although it could also be one from a Guidance fin system box. I have one from the Guidance system and it looks a lot like yours.

There’s someone who makes reproduction fins kind of like that for about $100 I think. An original in good shape might be worth more. Of course since they don’t fit in the standard modern fix box they’re only valuable to someone who has a board with an old fin box.

Good call. You’ve done your homework well.

Greenough Stage 4 Waveset.

What are you guys talking about? That’s not a Waveset, it’s just one of the many oddball systems that passed thru in the late 60’s. I don’t know which one. Worth pretty close to nothing.

Uhm, no, Mac - Rachel has it nailed, I think. It;s the similar-to-a-Guidance Systems no-screw setup that Waveset made briefly in the early '70s. Rare beast, and valuable for taking measurments from if nothing else.

Note that it’s drilled for a leash. This is probably why it’s still around rather than ( like many of its siblings) on the bottom someplace.

hope that’s of use

doc…

I would say it is a Guidance Systems fin. The Waveset type have 14 small cleats along the base of the fin (at least the one on my old Overlin does). The Guidance Systems have 7 larger cleats. Check the Bing website, they have a photo of some Guidance Fins.

LOL, that looks just like the fin i sold on ebay a month or two back.

final selling price was $.01. a guy near Santa Cruz bought it. LOL

Uhm, no, Doc. It’s not a waveset. Guidance fins don’t fetch the bucks. As far as the value, I believe some bad information was given about similar reproduction fins selling for $100. All vintage fins are not created equal.

Thanks for the info everyone. I remember seeing fins of this configuration years ago, but couldn’t give my friend a positive identification. Hopefully the owner will show up sometime to reclaim it. As it was found on the beach at low tide, I guess it most likely fell out while being used and someone would like to have it back.
