I’m finishing up a 5’10" grom board I’m not sure of the fin placement for a small board. it’s a thruster setup for a girl.
any help would be appreciated
thanks,
Adam

I don’t start moving the fins back until I get under 5’10’', so your normal placement should be fine.
Back fin: 3 1/2"
Front fins: 10 3/4"
Hey Adam,
Depending on the tail width, I also like to move my rail fins a skosh closer to the stringer for lighter riders with small feet.
Like how much further in? I think I usually do them about 1-1/8" off the rail
Adam,
Just curious…how much of a grom are you referring to? Does she know how to surf and be able to handle a thruster?
Or, is she just a learner…in which case it could be a disadvantage to put her on one. Kids do better, from what I’ve seen, starting on a single or 2 + 1 - then move up to a thruster - and all required to make them work well and properly…
If experienced, standard placement (1-1/8 to 1-1/4 off rail) on a 5-10 should be fine.

she has been riding a fun board for a while and wants to try and step it up. she has great balance and I think is ready. not to mention she wants to be like the cool kids with a hot pink shortboard.
I should finish it this weekend and I’ll post pics.
Thanks for the help.
