Fin Placement questions

Thought I would pose a question to the guys who have more experience than I do and hope to get some understanding of how fin placement (with regards to distance from the rail) affects a board. I’m working on a 7 foot twin fin funboard with a 15" swallow tail.

I notice 1.25 inch from rail to fin trailing edge is somewhat of a standard on the thrusters I have . How would moving the fins inboard to 1.5 inches change the way the board reacts ? Is there a relationship between the tips of the swallow and the fins that should be maintained (fins lining up with the tips?) I have a FISH by Steve Brom and he seems to move the fins further in towards the stringer than any of my thrusters and it rides really good!

I’m guessing the fins should be moved inboard when the tail gets (really) wide to keep the outside rail fin from popping out when the board is banked.

Thanks
