i have a few questions on fin placement , but i am probally missing the measurements that would be usefull for getting an opinion…ill check and get exact measurements tommorow…but for now , one is a 5’11’’ about 21’‘wp…crack is 4’‘deep and i think 9’’ from tip to tip…i should know the width at the tail, but i dont at the moment…i am wanting to use the futures twin set up…it came with a 3’’ tang but i am not planning on using that unless i really should…the fins are 4.8’’ at the base, and 5.125’’ deep…they are foiled on the outside only…any advice at all on placement , angles or anything would help.
I guess it’s a retro twin fish shape, so with softer rails and stronger rider, it can hold with just the side fins set dead straight.
Profile has something to do with exact fin placement, as does rider weight and style, where he places back foot, and how he likes to surf, but generally, for side fins that size, not keel, maybe trailng edge 8" from tip of tail tip.
If you want to be safe, put in the trailer box.
If you are light, or have hard rails, you need the trailer fin.
If you like to bank the board, don’t swivel, then fin sizing is adaquate.
Of course, WP forward needs fins forwards, and WP close to center needs YOU to place backfoot back further, thus requiring further back placement of side fins.
yes i guess its what youd call a retro shape…wp is forward …i am leaning towards about what you said, possibly the trailing edge about 8’’ up…i remember reading a thread on here where people were complaining about performance of their fish ,and it seemed to be due to their fins being too far forward…i remember something about wanting the leading edge about where your back foot is?..so these will end up somewhere around 8’’ at the trailing edge…remember these are also foiled only on the outside edge,i am obviosouly no fin expert, but to me, that means they cannot be straight these have to be toed in …any suggestion on distance from the rail and toe in would be great …or maybe a push to a usefull thread in the archives
