Fin Placement

My first longboard (9’8 noserider, block tail)is finally glassed and ready for a fin box (thanks to all of you that helped with the Volan glass questions!!!) Now I’m working on placing the 10.5 inch box so that I can vary the fin placement and experiment some while riding…is there a standard placement of the box based on board length, fin size, etc. I’ve been sneaking around my local shop with a measuring tape trying to find a significant relationship between these things, but none seem to jump out at me!! Input from you guys is much anticipated and appreciated! Re-Todd Osborne Gainesville, FL.

Your fin variety should/would change according to your choice of surf location, hollow beachbreak-lotsa rake, trifins are lame and unnessessary on longboards, expecially if you don’t/can’t pump you turns anyway! Slow rollers like that pivot fin(minimum rake). FINS ARE VERY IMPORTANT, OWN A VARIETY AND YOU WILL BE HAPPILY SATISFIED WITH YOUR HOMEMADE BOARD(hopefully there is at least 4.5"noserocker and 3.75"+tailrocker). Many longboard rippers change fins after checking their surfspot, their only about $28-$55. a bargain compared to the labour of manufacturing a multi-colored beauty. Use an old fin to make sure box is level before resin gels…no what i mean?
