Fin position

For my 9’0" I’m gonna use a 2+1 set up with the center fin box 7" up and the side fins at 14 1/2" up. does this sound right to you guys? Thanks, Scott.

There’s a good amount of preference in fin placement. I think lots of pros would say 5"-6" and 12.5". The closer together you put all the fins, the more they interact, a bad thing. However, the closer together the fins are, the tighter they turn, a good thing. The backs of the side fins go 1.25" in from the rails. Setting the box forward would be for using a deep-dredging, small-rake center fin. They’re good for tight turns, but they require you to stand over the fin and raise the nose to turn. That doesn’t work so well surfing a longboard on average waves. Setting the box back would be for longer rake fins, for trimming, nose riding, and carving long arcs while you stand farther forward. If I were installing your fins, I would merely set all of them 1" back from where you said… maybe 6" up to the box and 13.5" up to the side bites. But I think the dimensions you gave will work fine.
