Fin positioning

 Good evening swaylockers!!!

Need a little tip…just finished making two wooden fins for a mini simmons and we are about to glass it on the board. I heard that for positioning the fin for the glass job we glue it to the board and then glass it. The little point i’m missing is what type of glue can i use on it. The glass job on the board is with polyester resin on glass and we plan on glassing it also with polyester resin. So…what glue should i use!!!

 ThankU very much,keep the stoke!!!

The glue is just to hold the fin in place on your lamination while your glass it to the board. I use 3 minute epoxy. There are many others that work. As long as it cures fast and will hold the fin in place. I like the fast curing epoxy because its strong and clear and I can literally hold the fin in-place while it sets up. Just one point of clarification…1) Laminate the board 2) glue on the fins 3) glass on the fins

xic,

The glue is a hot glue gun. Just tack them into place with the right cant and toe...just a spot or two of glue will hold them in place for glassing.

Greenlight’s how to glass on fins video here.

Hope it helps, have fun
