fin question

ok,so ive layed up my 32 ish layers of glass 2 at a time,i did this over a glass panel....one side looks really good,so im planning this being the inner edge...so when i foiled the fin do i give it a hot coat? i think m answering my own question here but some advice would be good!  thanks karl

yep,

are these glass ons? if so i was taught to do the hotcoat with them on the board.

32 layers is FU box thickness. Are you making double-foiled center fins for a box? If so, you can leave sanded or paint with resin and even polish. Most glass box fins nowadays are sprayed with auto-style clear acrylic laquer.

If they're glass-ons, don't hotcoat. You'll want to scuff the inside too if you leave it flat, don't want any bonding issues.

thanks chaps! im planning on these going into fcs fusion boxes,i cant help think its still too thin,i wont know till i get them cut i guess...yamaharacer..you a uk shaper?

sorry mate.

i am from the east coast USA

Cut off a corner, just enough to get into ''clean'' sheet, and check your thickness. Dial calipers are handy for this, but just comparing to an existing FCS tab will work.

sorry mr yamaharacer..i had it in my mind you were from bristol..so another thing i didnt get quite right!so if i didnt get the thickness, given i just used lam resin, could i lay it up a bit more?

You do need to HC the sheet before cutting and foiling. If it's still straight lam resin, it can pick up dirt and gum your paper, etc.

Sand the HC before you add any needed thickness.
