Fin shape and Material question!

Hey All;

I was recently given a little square of ‘Sentra’, a 1/4" thick piece. I’ve researched it a bit online and I took a couple hours today and cut and foiled up some fins out of it. It sands easily, sucks 'cause there are no guidelines in there to help with the foil, just using calipers a lot and shadows to match 'em. Still some work to do. My questions:

has anyone used this stuff for fins?

It’s an expanded PVC… will this be ok with Polyester Resin or should I use Epoxy? …I’m going to wrap 'em with several layers of glass, same technique as wood fins. the material itself seems to flex nicely but snaps fairly easily… not even sure it it will last, but what the hell…

What do you guys think of this shape? It’s kind of weird, and they’re large (6’x6’) hatchet-y twins. Not sure how they’ll work, if they’ll work at all, they’re intended for my twin fish, 6’0". Just wanted to try something different. Should I thin them out towards the top quite a bit to enhance flex? Right now the thickness is very similar along the leading edge almost all the way up the curve. Just at the very tip it thins out.

Thanks for any help/ideas!

pics didnt’ work…

only thing I can add is that using

aircraft model plywood meets the standards for fin making and is affordable

Other than that, your fin doesnt look ‘safety minded’.

Imagine a wipeout where you go deep, you rush quickly to the surface 10-15ft or more

and your skull comes into contact with that point, the rest of the boards bottom is sticking to the water, so there is no give.

Pretty ugly skull wound!

I’m sure you could also lacerate your face or rip your guts out too with some unplanned wipeout gymnastics.
