i made this fin just for test(not finished) is that size good for a 5’8" fish? The size is in centimeters…
hi ‘romeublue’ !
I’ve used this one in my 5’11 fish in up to head high waves. [ I guess it depends on a lot of variables, but … so far, so good !]
It’s : -
6 1/8 " base [c 15.5cms]
4 1/2 " depth [c. 11.5 cms]
3/8 " rake [c .5 ? cms]
I’m sure some people may recommend a longer base and greater depth, but this works fine… for ME !
[I’ve made smaller keels too, which I use with various back fins [fin box helps, for sure !]

[ p.s. - this fibreglass keel was, from memory, 30 layers of 5oz flatweave , pigmented blue. This is the INSIDE edge you see here. ]
5 x 9 is pretty standard for Gephart keels…
The purists may scream ‘sacrilege !’ [or similar], but if you’re unsure, boxes or plugs will help you try different keels [and, twinfins!] on a ‘fish’, and find out what works best for you.
It may also help extend the versatility of the board, perhaps ! It saves having to grind off fins / keels if they are in the ‘wrong’ place , or are a bit small, or big, or whatever.
just my thoughts [and personal preference], for what it’s worth …
hope this helps !

The Gephart fins on my new 5ft 6 Lis fish are 5 by 7 -at the base-. I have seen many ,many, different combinations on Lis fishes and from 2-5 fins also.
