Fin

Hi folks,

I’ve previously posted rough details of my current project - a 5’0" eggish kind of thing for my daughter (3yo). I’m up to the glassing stage now, just waiting for the delivery of some more resin, but I’ve got no idea what sort of fin to use on the thing. It’s going to be a single fin, because there’s no point wasting effort and money on multiple fins for someone who’s only just comfortable with going in above her knees.

So I’m throwing it out to the Swaylock’s community - what sort of fin do you think I should use?

I’ve been considering using the centre fin from an old set of FCS M3s (I think it’s M3, I don’t have them in front of me right now) that I have lying around. I don’t have a thruster to use them in any more, not in South Australia anyway, and I’m planning to use the outside ones as switcheroos on the quad I’m going to make for myself after this one’s finished.

3 years old? You’ve got time… foil a 5.5 or 6 inch fin out of marine ply. Seal it with lam resin, and glass it on.

I like your attitude…

If I put myself in the kid’s place, knowing what I know now, I’d wish for a twin.

I’d rather lean on a fin and feel it make board work than feel the board work around it.

It had occurred to me, I just wasn’t sure how big I should make it, relative to the size of the board. 5.5-6" sounds pretty good, I might give it a crack.
