Final Screening of Blank

What screen do you final sand to if you’re doing a tinted board?? Timmy Tint

i dont use screen. i bought a car wash mit and glued a piece of 220 cloth sandpaper to one side and 320 to the squishy wool side. works like a champ and i got it from the dollar store. Austin S

120 is fine you can clean it up as much as you want but 120 is fine. The idea of the glocve seems like it would give inconsistant results compared to a foam pad. since you are relying on the hand not the pad. http://www.surfboardglassing.com

I take a flaexible rubber sanding pad made by 3m and use a very small amount of glue to glue it to my hand. The grit that the pads come in are fine, and I think they have a very fine grit. This method gives you the flexibitly of the pad combined with the touch of your hand. If you are tinting it then you should concentrate on getting every scratch and nick out of the blank becuase they tend to soak in more color and will be very noticable in the final product, but that said, you don’t have to go to 220 grit and beyond. 120 will work, 150 is good too. The point is to use whatever grit you feel comfortable at and go ove the board as evenly as possible. I stopped using screens when i do tints because they tend to leave “courdory” like impressions on the blank. They are small, but they will show if doing a darker tint. Drew

Instead of gluing the foam to your hand just wet the foam and your hand will stick to it, at least well enough for this job. Just a plain old piece of urethane foam rubber behind the screen works fine.

surflab…the handwasher has a back with an inch of foam typical to the usual screen. it works fine. Austin http://members.cox.net/austinsurfboards
