Finally a new board for me.

After about 5 months I finally finished a new board for myself. Its a 10’7 H with 1 inch high density foam with 2 1/2" balsa and 2 1/8" cedar stringers. 10 foot with a 19 inch nose and a 17 inch tail. I made an all resin tail block for this one. I am really stoked on the way it all came out. My first waves were chest to head and glassy. Just an isane noserider. Every wave was a solid 5 for the entire wave. Board has a big nose concave and an extra inch of tail kick from 36". Big glass on pivot fin. A perfect tool for a 250 lb. noserider.

Beautiful work Austin. Mike

very rad tail block

Very good looking board! Nice resin tint on the bottom as well. How did you get that shade of yellow? Also, did you do the tailblock in layers or are the pinlines on the surface? Well done man!

Very beautiful.

Austin and Tsaunders !!!

You guys are top notch !

Thanks for all the posts and videos.

I love your new board.

Ray

wow !!

Lovely finishes on your boards !

does that tailblock flex a bit , too ?

I also would like to know…is that a yellow pinline on TOP of the tailblock , or “inside” it , somehow ??

cheers !

ben

Looks Awesome Austin, I really dig that tail block.

P.S. Where did you get a name like Austin…hehe

Nice job Austin. That see through tailblock is insane! … I’ve never seen one before.

Austin, Very nice. You really seem to be one of those guys whose always looking to make whatever he does better and better. Beautiful board.

It may be the distortion in the picture, but is the wide point behind center? In any case, it has NOSERIDER written all over it. Great board. Doug

I’d surf that in a heartbeat! I want one.

Mate, that’s abut the most beautiful board I’ve ever seen!

The tail is just… wow.

god, I’m smiling just looking at it!

My mal has a similar shape, re the widepoint.

god, that’s a beautiful thing!

this austin guy is the best on here. he’s shaping me a board right now and its bananas. a little egg. hopefully he’ll put it on here. buy boards from this man! homeless.

The resin block was made from poured resin layers. Starting with black on the bottom, clear, yellow resin, clear and then a black cap. About 4 hours of sanding later and you get what you see here. The only pinline is where the resin block was bonded to the foam. The color of the board is actually a lot more yellow then it shows. The tail block doesn’t flex but when Austin ordered the blank he put extra tail kick in it. Clark classic weight foam to help with the pressure dings.

And Jerome is not really homeless he just plays one on TV.

Here is a pic of the homeless man’s board in the process:

Hola Austins:

I wonder what’s exactly that 1"wide HD foam stringer. I’ve seen it in other blanks, always non-white colored.

I’d like to know:

1- Is it HD polyurethane foam or simply a XPS foam sheet?? XPS? Then you seal it with epoxy before poly glassing, don’t you?

2- Do you saw the blank and glue the HDstringer to it or is it available on the market, ready to shape?

hey neira,

The 1 inch HD stinger is just a higher density foam than normal. They dye the foam and cut it into strips when you ask for it. It is just like ordering a custom stringer. I think they have black, blue, red, yellow and white. You might be able to just order the strips of foam but I would just order them with the blanks. This was my first board that I packed a ton of stringers all together. Looks really cool with the yellow laps and all. Hope that helps.

I would be homeless tomorrow , if the owner of my flat saw resin swirls on my floor like the ones on the floor in the mantis egg photo .

A beautiful board …NO DOUBT !

[…But not worth getting evicted over …]

ben

both of those boards are INSANE Austin…Nice job! I’m REALLY liking the Mantis. I like everything about it.

Hey Fish & Chips,

We built the room especially for glassing. The floor has resin paper on the bottom covered by 30 lb tar paper. We pull it up about every 25 boards or so. One day I want to build a resin collection box that lets the resin run down the sides and collect in a bucket underneath but for now the tar paper has to do it.
