he dropped in on me cause hes a dick…the waves were good, but the bigger sets closed out a bit in the more powerful section at that particular spot…so i moved to the longboard further down the point where it was alot cleaner.
the sun comes out here in SB, but ventura stays pretty grey, the marine layer is super thick around here, doesnt usually burn off till later in the afternoon.
Man, how about this crazy marine layer we’ve been having lately. On top of our lack of surf lately it’s really been bumming me out. Anyway, I saw that you were in SB and thought I’d say hey as I am also in that area. IV to be exact. Just finally saw some swell (maybe 3 ft.) out at Devereaux today, and it was definitely better than zoning out on the couch. You been driving down south to get some waves or do you always surf down in Ventura? Ever surf in the IV area?
for the past few months ive been driving to ventura whenever a south swell comes in, or a medium north…ive surfed campus point once, and it was super small, kinda fun, but small…i saw one wave though, from the parkinglot which looked like it just broke forever, super glassy and clean, no sections, just peeling forEVER…but when i got down there it was the biggest letdown to see that the wave that looked so perfect was like 5 inches tall…oh well!
C-street is pretty cool cause theres good longboarding almost all the time, and up the point is pretty cool for shorter boards, more of a beachbreak.
i live like 2 blocks from leadbetter, so i like to surf there if theres enough swell to hit it…otherwise im pretty much forced down to ventura (ive never ventured further north than campus point…im too stuck to the breaks i know to travel elsewhere).
Ohhh, that looks like a sweet longboard cruising wave. I’ve got a pic of me on my longboard on a shelf@home on a similar wave(propably shorter though). One of my favorite longboard waves.
If your riding a single fin leashless, learn how to spear out your board at drop-ins, there is a great example of this in the rincon section at the start of Crystal Voyeger.
I am a lot like you in my choice of spots. I always choose the breaks I know. I haven’t driven down to C-street yet but it sounds like it might be worth the gas. So, you live near Leadbetter? You go to SBCC? Also, can you see the USS Ronald Reagan from your place?
I work 2 blocks from the Point and surf it almost daily. Usually at lunch but during good swells I’ll go out before work. Give me call sometime and I’ll meet you out there if our schedules permit. (Invite goes out to anyone in the area that’s interested.) Trade waves, stories, boards…805-701-2698
i havent seen the ship yet, but im sure if i walked down the street i could, im right at the bottom of the hill on the downtown side of SBCC, i went there last year but im taking the next year or semester off so i can work and surf and learn a bit more about shaping and glassing.
c-street is usually worth the gas, just make sure you go around low tide, high tide really kills it…the point of c-street, closer to the peir is an awesome longobard wave on the right day, most days it breaks around ankle-knee high and is good for a little bit of surfing if everywhere else is flat.
Right on!! Sounds like a nice plan you have. I went to SBCC for the first semester of last school year. I guess fall '04? Man, was that a long time ago! Wonder if we had any classes together. Anyway, I think I am going to definitely check out C-street sometime soon. Maybe even call up SrPato. Also, I neglected to mention this, but your single fin looks like a ton of fun! I cannot wait until I have the time/money to shape one of my own. Congrats on that!
