Finishing Tips

I’m not talking just polishing. Finishing off a shape, lamination etc. I’ll start off by saying I like to take my shapes to 120 grit (close to 150) even though I don’t airbrush (yet). I like to round of the top and bottom of the tail a bit as well to make glassing easier. For sanding epoxy filler coats I’ve been scuffing the skin off with 60 grit by hand and then been using a real light touch with a Makita sander. Been keeping my scratch marks running in the same direction and following the contours of the board as well. Especially the laps on the bottom as they should be beveled. For the rails I’ve been using hard pad off a orbital sander and starting with 150 grit by hand. Then 220. Some of this you could find in the archives I’m sure. But not all I think. Feel free to add anything you like. Doesn’t just have to be sanding filler coats.

Can you show us some pics of you doing these things?

If I could find someone to hold a camera I probably could. I’ll see what I can fish up anyway.
