Fins are in

Thought I post something seeing as we are back.

Set the fins in the fish today fronts at 12 rears 7 7deg cant fronts half that for the rears. Hoping for a clean head high day for a test run later in the week. Fingers crossed.

I also put a layer of basalt veil in the deck lam soaks up resin and swells like a sponge won’t do it again without vacum.

NICE !

GOOD on ya , Tom !

I like the look of the BOTTOM of the board , too, is THAT the basalt ?

Swaylocks needs more photos of boards and  fins and boards in action [… it’s called SURFING , guys ! ]

    and

 waaaay  more positive stuff

keep up the experimenting , mate

  cheers

No the basalt is a greeny yellow not the prettyest stuff thats the black/grey eps and grey tinted spackle. The life is me not paying attention with the hotwire
I’m not going to vent it anymore left the other two eps board s in the car in the sun for a couple of days and then on the lawn and they are fine except all the wax in the car.

Got it out for a first run in a stomach to chest high beachy good fun frontside, lots of speed.
Pivot well off the top. The tail flex is is a bit of a change from my last fish I can feel it change pushing hard into a turn.
Backside it feelsa bit sticky/ forced Seem to be having issues recently backside recently living in land if the lefts and being goofy footed must mean more practice needed.
Had a couple of fun cheater 5s when it fattened out to.

yeehaa

now show us the bottom please Tom !

[the board’s , not YOURS , mate !]

those fins look pretty BIG , by the way … what is the base and depth , of the front and back ones , Tom ?

   cheers

     ben

Haha I was kinda hopeing you wouldnt ask for that carbon on the bottom is far fron straight lol next time I will put a couple of guide marks on the foam.
Bases are 4.5 and 3.5 depth 4.75 and 5
I am 90 kilo or 200lb so like a bit of fin to push off.

Thought I’d post an update on the board after a half a dozen more surfs stoked on it.
Figured it out backside my stance was to narrow had some great waves on it, doesnt like mush but a bit of a wall and a pump zoom.
But sadly it’s buggered caught inside lip on the head.
Might try and repair it but its almost easyer to build another.
A big thanks to reverb for the modern fish thread
which is what inspired me to build a more foiled fish with plenty of tail rocker, I know this board is far from pretty but it was lots of fun.

Sorry to hear it’s buggared…Sounds like your mind is on the next one already.

How did the carbon tape hold up on the other side? There’s a discussion on Kingphin’s thread that might relate to your experience.

So, keep the fins and start over? How will you do the top next time?

-J

Kick those fins off and re-use them on your new one…and post some pics of that one too please. Looks like a fun board to ride.

Sorry to see that , big Tom !

maybe fcs tab those fins , for your next one ? [they could stand to lose 1/2" depth , no worries …]

and , would you use more cloth / thicker board on the next one you reckon ?

… or …

… just stay away from the lip to head scenarios , maybe ??

  cheers !

   ben

Tabing them could be an option not sure if they would be strong enough. Hoping to get some gearbox boxes next year which take more of a base.
If I rebuild it it will be the same maybe try carbon on the deck as per kingpins thread.
Being in a stupid place was what did it.

tommworth,

I think your board is bitchen.  Too bad it buckled, but a good excuse to build another. Are the rears set at different cant/toe in than the fronts?  What was the spacing between the rears and the fronts?Mike

Thanks yep the fronts are 7 and rears 3.5 degrees, the gap is 1 3/8.
The rears are also 1/4 in further in from the rail.
