At present I have nine stitches in my right shoulder , from a skin cancer being cut out . [yep , I got some photos]
Also a swollen head above my right eye , from another growth being liquid nitrogened [ ‘dry ice’] , the same day .
So, a chance to lay up the remaining three panels , over the next [restful] week or two …
I have now done 13 fins [cut out]
And , a few more offcuts …
I hope that you get some good surfs , Ray !
… enjoy !
cheers !
Ben
Hi ben,
Nice pics!
How do you draw your outline on the panels? Do you use a dremel?
And what do you use to cut the outline? Bandsaw or jigsaw or … ?
I love your work and picture heavy threads!
…see below… oops double post
cheers Hans !
Generally I trace around the cardboard template with a fine marker pen [ ártline’, in australia]
I cut them out with a jigsaw , with a 'carborundum ’ blade . Fine tune the back edge with dowel with sandpaper wrapped around it …
Man Ben,
You’re gonna need to update that tool selection if you keep doing numbers like that.
Full production.
I like it!
I was taught to use a scribe as it’s easier to see when cutting out.
Bansaws make quick work of those fibeglass panels.
And an upside benchtop belt sander helps too.
When we made our fins @ Brewer, Joey would cut the panels into long strips the fin height tall.
One pass with the bandsaw down the front and the back.
Ready for grinder.
Kenji our foiler would put the two side fins base to base and would foil trailing edge of both at the same time.
So smart.
cheers baz !
the remaining three fins …
two green ones will have carbon fibre strips ,
the third , copper powder
then , I’m done…
the caveman has some foiling ahead of him ! :0
and the left over offcut fins , I’ll send to sydney and test ride … watch this space ! …
[and yes… once I have A fin blank done , then I use a scriber to give the 'scratched 'outline that you see in some of these photos ! :) ]
