Fins with straight edges...

Hey guys,I have seen a picture floating around of some ?pinkish? fins. I believe it was a quad set, and I have searched for them multiple times. can anyone point me in the right direction? I just saw the WAVEGRINDER Video and thought of those fins. Im more interested in how/if they work? Any ride reports or personal opinions would be greatly appreciated! I ask because Im thinking about having a go at it but wanna make sure its worth the trouble.

I think member "pridmore" is who you're thinking of. PM him and im sure he'll tell you all about them. Im sure there are others here who use them too.

Talking of different fins…

yeehaaa !

let me know when you ride them eh , mate ?

might make myself another quad set [ or maybe another twinny pair ?] like that again , some time !

  cheers

 ..... and .... not forgetting ' Wildy's  fins , of course ?!

There are not too many 'curved surfaces' , HERE !

.....Greg has been making these for years / ? decades ? ...

Of course , if you tilt the template forward ,  you WOULD have a 'straight ' back edge fin , like so ....

Wow, I was surprised to see this dredged up from the abyss! The link you posted is very similar to the idea I have in my head, I think the thruster set you mentioned was the picture that set on the path to my own path. I can see the reasoning with having straight edges. Some of the fastest most maneuverable machines in existence use straight edged foils and it works beyond well for them so what’s the hang up in our industry? I can see the flip side to in imitating the fins of fish and such, if it's good enough for them it's good enough for us right?

The wave grinder was a good example of new idea's that didn't catch on for being to outside the box. Anyone ever give one a go?

If any of you know Tony Jones over at coral reef you should ask him about his alien fin with beveled holes in it, another interesting idea there. I'll post the pic for you guys. He says the water traveling across the inside of the fin tries to push through the holes and the water traveling across the outside of the fin creates pressure when the to opposing waters meet creating a "spurt" of energy like holding your thumb over the end of a garden hose...I've seen the same idea used in water ski's except the fin is half moon'ish.

pridmore ...

MARK , where ARE you ?

do you still come here , mate ?

and EZ  , did you contact him , and do you have a  link to that fin you mentioned , please , mate ?

did you mean "straight edges"  at the front or back edge[s] ?

 or both ?

also , straight edged , upright fins , perhaps ?  [like the 'wavegrinder' ?? ]

There WAS a guy here making similar [ from memory , a medium sized thruster set]  ones out of foam , for glassons , a few months back

But I forget his 'username' , and the name of the thread , though , unfortunately ?

anyone ?  ..... a little help , please ?

  cheers !
