Hi guys, i have a firewire with one of those allen wrench bolts on the deck. I want to fix a delam spot near the tail and was wondering what kind of special consideration i should take given the board has this air vent thing up by the nose. Do i need to adjust it at all? I’ve fixed plenty of boards and know what im doing but never one with one of those vents. When the board was outside and it was a hot day here in san diego the delam started to rise up, and now that its night and cooled off its settled back down. Weird stuff thanks!
I’d fix in dropping temperatures rather than rising, which will lift the delamed bit, regardless of vent being in or out. Open the vent to allow it to breathe through the vent rather than the ding. To be safe, dropping temperatures and vent unscrewed…
Thanks Karl. I understand in rising temps the material releases gas so without the vent the entire board would delam. I imagine you probably wouldnt want to leave the board in a hot car.
So when you say unscrew the vent for the repair, do you remove the bolt completely?
After the repair how far in do you screw the bolt?
Do people make any adjustment to these bolts depending on the temp outside or just leave them?
thanks!
