Well it’s taken months of reading Swaylocks…£180…3 months on and off but my first board is finally finished. The hotcoat is ‘adequate’ … i have had problems with some tiny air bubbles and i think some dirt on the deck but what they hey…it will surf
I’ll do some things differently next time, like build some proper shaping stands and not use 2 chairs and or a fold away black and decker work bench but i am limited by space…i.e my back yard and then the dining room.
Anyhoo 6’2" x 17" x 22" (3" forward of centre point) x 17" @ 3" Keel fish…and onto the photos:
Cheers to Swaylocks, Royal and all who listened to me and gave me advice.
Cheers Guys…i won’t get chance to get it in the water until Sunday and i really hope it does surf well. I’m adequate at best in the water so even if it is a bit of a pig i probably won’t notice…but hell, i made it so WOOOOOOOOOOOOO
The missus says she will come and take some photo’s so if they come out OK i’ll sure to let you all know.
The blank was a 6’7" retro blank from Homeblown in the UK. I used 6oz glass (1 layer on the bottom and 2 on the deck) with RR Epoxy Resin. The fins were cut and foiled from a piece of 9mm marine ply.
Will i do it again. YUP!
I have a 6yr old who started getting into surfing last year i.e. lay on board, push onto wave, stand up when it stopped on the beach who wants one making. I’ll try and shape him a sort of mal/egg hybrid of some description.
Wal (does not stand for Wanks A Lot but hey it’s only natural)
