I took it out this morning near manhattan beach, the waves were ok, i managed to pick off a couple good ones before I dinged the nose (pretty minor ding, but didnt want to suck up water). I wasnt able to get too much feedback, but so far, it paddles great, gets into waves pretty good. Despite the pretty boxy rails it felt like it held an edge pretty well, and my bottom turns felt pretty good on the thruster setup. I never felt all that comfortable though, never found quite the right place for my feet.
Overall though I am extremely happy with the board, i have no doubt that there will be many fun sessions on it.
Quick question about your rail cloth: Did you get 4oz rail tape, or cut the strips yourself? I’m thinking of doing a layer of 4 oz on the rails like this for my current project prior to lapping them with the top skin glass. Thanks!
Hey, you still around? Any ride reports for this board? I have a blank that has the rocker and foil kind of messed up so I’m thinking of doing a board with almost an identical shape, kind of a CI Pod thingy. I’m really curious how yours goes.
actually based the shape on the pod, rode one of my friends when i was thinking of what shape i wanted to use and im hooked. Ive only surfed it a few times, but I really like it. This board is a bit heavy, but due to its shortness it is really manueverable despite its weight. Once I found the right spot for my back foot the board goes great, accelerates through the pocket really well, but if I find myself on the wrong part of the wave it can be hard to get it back in, but i think that is more a lack of skill on my part. I messed up the foil a bit towards the nose, took out a bit too much foam on the deck and as a result it doesnt paddle all that well.
regardless of the flaws that i detect each time I go out, I really love this board. There will be many more to come.
The only reason i say so, is that if you have a small strip of glass and put a large flap over it, there is the risk of air bubbles on the edges of the strip. It is easier to sand the dome when the small strip is on top Too.
