First Board Build

Hey Guy’s,

So I am going to start working on building my first board. I am thinking of buying just a starter shaper package ( http://www.foamez.com/ez-starter-plus-shaping-kit-p-868.html)  and a blank kit(http://www.foamez.com/69-to-71-fun-board-kit-p-562.html)  from foamez. Can anyone recommend if there is a cheaper option than buying their starter kit or maybe spending more on a different option but getting more for my money? Also, a better option than the blank kits from foamez? I think I can get all of thiese tools at home depot but I want to see what advice I get back. If I can spend a little more but get enough supplies to do 2 boards elsewhere or maybe get a nicer set of tools by buying at website “x”. help me out guys! Also, if there is a forum topic or beginner sticky on this please point me to it as I looked prior to posting.

I just buy a blank, and use my own tools…and I buy the blanks locally so no shipping charges. Buy or make calipers tho! I can’t shape w out em.

That looks like a good way to get started - I’d go for the kit, foam e-z are good guys to deal with.

If you’re in the San Diego area you might contact Swaylocks poster Stingray, he has extra stuff sometimes and likes to share / help people out, might be able to get you a deal on some supplies.

Lots of great resources out there.  Just depends on where you are located. ??

Im located in st Petersburg florida

Lots of places to get everything you need in Florida.  Maybe some of the locals will chime in. Google–   Surf Source  .  They are in Atlantic Beach, Florida.   Lowel   PS Fiberglass Forida.  Both suppliers list their #s on their websites.  For blanks — google US  Blanks and/orArctic for the location of their Florida distributors.

Hey thank mcding! Anyone else know of any suppliers in the state?

You can probably find everything you need a la carte by going to Lowes / Home Depot / local surf supply / internet.  But I would try to find your local surf supply store and stick with them.  A good shop will provide more than just competitive prices.  They’ll help you pick the right blank, the proper tools, give you some insight, etc.  The guys at FoamEZ are great.  You can’t go wrong with one of their starter packages and the staff is always super nice and willing to help out.

I was just trying to help the guy save a buck - as bucks are tight nowadays…

I got my first tools from harbor freight, and my board kit from foam ez.  I still use some of the HF tools, but now buy all of my materials from fiberglass supply.  Do what works for you.
