First Board HELP !!

Hi Everyone

Have just ordered all of the essential items for Shaping/glassing. Have been riding customs for a while now, thought I should shape something myself! I have roughed out a template for a 6’4 Single fin (round tail) - was planning on adding two additional side fins for a 2+1 setup.

Couple of questions:

  1. Have read up on Bonzer setups - was thinking of a single to deep double concave - I have a few Shaping DVD’s and can’t find any techniques for shaping bottom contours ??

  2. Paint job / Logo - I have been told to steer clear of graphics on your first board. I’d like to at least put a logo on and possible a couple of pinlines either side of the stringer - Sharpie Pens ??

Cheers

Daz

  1. Go flat bottom on your first board, definitely hard enough without bottom contours.

  2. Any paint or pens(posca is what is usually used) that are water based. Don’t go too thick or you’ll have issues with delam. Go for paint if you want it, enjoy the experience!

There a post just a few down from your called this:

Help!!! First Board Disaster!!!

Read this then question how much you want to bit off. My first board was a full color / cutlap/ pinlined beast. I still have it to look back on, and relish how stoked I was making that chunk of foam.

The more complicated you make it, the more chance for error…just remember that bit o advice. Now go make a full cutlap, fabric inlay, Purple tint, triple pinlined, single concave to a double, bonzered, wing swallow tailed with a compound rocker, stretch power rod railed, clean machine.

Simple is good at first.
