first board, not last

Hello All,

First post here. I wanted to share a couple projects with the board to get feedback and suggestions. We are just finishing a 7’6” fun board (Marko EPS blank, epoxy/glass laminate). We chose this for 2 reasons one was to end up with a board to play with the second was to teach anew employee how to use epoxy/fiberglass and how to fair/paint. For this reason we built the board more like boat in the sense that we used epoxy primer and LPU top coat as the finish, jus as you would finish a boat.

Going on a little research from this board and other places I decided on a lamination of 6 oz and 4 oz plain cloth on both sides, each layer over lapping on the rail (we call it a chine in boats). I only took a couple pictures so far, but here they are…

Also, we just got in a 10’3” Safari blank – its huge and we will build the board the same way, but put MUCH more time into the finish. Any suggestions on a fin for such a board? I promise to take alto more pictures and video of this one

did you shape that thing?

yep

got a few pictures of the new board. Its a 10’3" safari blank. i have only trimmed it a little. the blank was in pretty rough shape when its arrived. Right now it 10’1" tip to toe measured on the deck. Widest point is just forward of center and its right at 24".

I could use some suggestions on a fin for this board. Board will be built with epoxy, and will be painted with yacht paint (I’m a boat builder) Comments/feedback are appreciated.

when glassing you may want to extend your lap on the rails so it stops approx a inch in from where your rail hits the flat bottom. grind out the high edges as well…makes for no high spots and less burn thru on the rails during hot coat sanding…you may also want to set your plug and box back further…8.5 fin maybe 9…for the 7’6
