I want to shape my first board. I am able to access all the correct tools i just need to make a template. I want to make an al merrick pod. A somewhat mix between a biscuit and a fish. Instead of a 3 fin set up i want it to be a quad. I would like the dims. to be 6’3" times 21"times 2’3’4". If anyone has any imputs on anything i shouldnt do i would like a comment so i can possibly change things considering i am still learning. I will need all the helpi can get.
Don’t over shape and take your time with each step. The better your template easier it will be to shape. The better your shape the better the lam. The better the lam the better the hot coat. Good hot coat the easier to sand.
Exellent advice, A2tall. I’d just add that since you are not a production guy, just take your time after each step. Look at your shape over several days and in different light and notice any needed tweaks.
And finish the board, no matter how many screw ups. Every screw up you fix and get past is one you hopefully won’t make on the next on.
I’m working on one now that is driving me crazy. I am trying a whole bunch of different things on this one board instead of one new thing on several boards. I have made and recovered from many mistakes. I’ll probably give the board away, but it has been a learning experience. (also known as just one damn mistake after another. ha)

Good advice, Bill Thrailkill once said the same. Amazing how you'll walk in one morning and look at your board, or take it outside and look at it, and see something you missed all along. Better to find 'em before you glass!

I like that advice - that's the way I've always done it, too. Seems like every board I've made had some point where I felt like abondoning it and starting over, but seeing it through always enhances the learning. And a lot of the goofs that frustrated me ended up being far less severe than I imagined at the time.

I did one of those. Posted some of the goofs, but I never posted all of them, it was too embarrassing! Still ended up being a fun board, if somewhat problematic. Yes, I did learn an awful lot from that one board, mostly I learned humility 'tho, LOL.
Might ask your dad to sell you as an indentured servant to Jim The genus or Bill Thralikill. in a year or so you will be shaping circels around about 75% of the pros.
