last time i did a board was when i was in fifth grade. my dad and i took a blank his friend shaped and we [mostly he] glassed it… i am still bummed i got rid of it. after many years, i decided to give it another whack. with the help of ki i wound up busting out two boards. a 6’0" summer shortboard and a 6’0" fish. the shortboard idea came from my xanadu pig which is a blast of a board, but i really wanted a little more tail thickness since i tend to drive more with my rear foot.
the fish is based off a steve lis fish my dad taught me to surf on, as my dad had it since steve shaped it and i’ve been influenced by pleskunas’ ideas since.
here’s the new fish compared to the lis…
here’s a close up of the quad setup, along with some enhancements courtesy of my dad’s larry mabile quad fish… [still sanding the fish]
i wanted a little more turn, so i have some tail rocker as well as single concave on the fish…
the shortboard i used some very boxy rails [i like 'em boxy] as well as a much thicker tail. you will notice the exaggerated “hip” right in front of the fins… i’m purely testing this out. single concave running to a slight double in the tail. yet to ride it, but paddles just as i wanted a summer shortboard to paddle.
just wanted to share with everyone since i’ve found this forum to be endlessly helpful and full of ideas. more boards to come certainly. thanks!
