They look sweet! Was it hard to cut out the curved pieces? I just glued up a set of wooden keels with the wood at a 45 degree angle. Not the easiest thing to do.
Very nice, did you use any glass on them? It’s a bit hard to see…
it wasn’t too hard making the design. i had to make 2 sets of fins at the same time though. i taped a plank of one color wood on the other and traced 3 fin templates on the top piece. then i cut out the fin shape, giving me 6 fins, 3 dark and 3 light. i then taped 1 dark on one light and cut out the design. then it was just like a puzzle, i just changed one dark piece for one light piece and glued them together. i glassed them with 3 layers of 6 oz glass.
yo bro- better not be any marks on my freshly spackled blank----
and thanks for the fins…
Those are cool looking fins. In case you didn’t do it, you may want to grind the wood down at the tabs and base of fin and add glass. I made some FCS style wood fins that broke first time out because I didn’t do that. The good news is, the fins float, so it was fairly easy to retrieve it.
i made the wood in the tabs thinner than the rest of the fin so i could have more resin in the tabs because i was afraid that they might break. sorry to hear about yours, but you just got me a little nervous…ha ha.
Better nervous now than trying to find your fins in the whitewater!!!
