Aloha,
I am a man of few post’s, but I have been lurking in the archives in search of anwsers to my many questions.
Anyways, I have finished my fourth board, which is actually for my girlfried. This is also my first fish and my first epoxy.
I’ll start with the epoxy… I have been converted, my poly glass jobs are decent and I had no real problems with poly, but epoxy is a whole new world. I’m not going to write a comparison contrast paper, but I did want to say Resin Research rawks…
And as for the fish… I HAVE BEEN RIDING THE WRONG BOARD… I could not believe the difference. I have already started on MY fish so I don’t have to keep stealing my girlfriends. The board is 5’8 x 20.5" x 2.5" This board put a big ol’ smile on my face after every wave.
barring any tech/operator errors you should see some pictures…
Josh.
aloha ,
I am a man of waaaay too many posts and photos [so some may say !]
Good on you Josh , it looks fun . The 3 fin option is interesting …did you ride it with / without the back fin ?
…how about as a single ? …does “futures” make a single fin ? [if not …you !!]
have fun on your one mate ! [posts pics for this pic aholic when it’s done eh ?]
cheers !

Thanks for the praise Chip…
Futures makes what is basically a fish set, with two big ol’ side fins and a tiny center fin. So far I have been using all three, and I have been very happy with the way it rides. Next session will be without the center fin.
I have been scouring the archives trying to get fin making dailed in, I do plan on experimenting with diff fins and would love to use the left over poly resin for this purpose. I’d like to make more traditional template fish fins. I was also considering making a plug for the center to go in place of the fin to fill the box cavity flush while in two fin mode.
I have though of trying it as a single, but feel the box is too far to the rear. Hell, I will probably ride it finless at some point, taking it back to grommethood and surfing via rails on bodyboards.
Speaking of grommethood, after the next fish is done, I will be building a single fin, I can’t help but think of the old single fin Bing my dad taught me on. I remember getting my first thruster and that feeling of excitement, and now the idea of riding a bingish board again gives me that same feeling. In my own way maybe I have come full circle…
I digress.
Anyways, I don’t think my shorty will be seeing a whole lot of water time for some time.
Josh.
to feed your picture fix…
thanks for the fin shot Josh ! [I’ve been thinking of changing my name to “chipfins”]
The way around the back box “being too far back” in your “fish” may be …
make a single fin , with the tab at the back of the fin , and a fair size “cutout” section from the front of the base of the fin , so you can slide the fin forward over the front of the box [as I read Bertlemann and others supposedly did when riding their “Stingers” , to get added looseness] … just a thought mate
