i am ordering my first custom log this week and needed a little bit of help. First of all i am 5’8 and still growing i am 14 years old and way 120 pounds. I am ordering a longoard and want it to be a really good noserider! I already know i want a square tail and a deep spooned nose but i am not sure what else i need like the rails, dimensions, etc. Could you please help me?
Thanks

will, how big is your dad, that will give you an idea of how large you want to go. If you want a noserider and go with volan glass, your board will last nearly a lifetime. I was smaller than that and I rode my dad’s 9’9" he made in 1966. Once we have an idea of where you are going to end up that will determine the length, other than that I am pretty outspoken in my love of Bings, but there are other good boards out there.
Kinda depends on how much you plan on growing in the next couple of years. Maybe get a 9’2 x 22.75 x 2.75 maybe an 18" nose 15 " tail. If you know the guy who is shaping it and know he can make a good noserider, just talk to him and he will hook you up proper. Make sure to go on the lighter side.
I knew I answered this before. don’t repost questions that you had answered!
well i want to get more than one answer, not just the same answer from the same people.
If your shaper’s worth his salt, he’ll be able to answer all your questions…
But I would talk to him about tail rocker, fin type (if your going glass-on), and bottom contours. I’m not a big fan of pinched rails the whole way like the old school logs, but I like a knifey edge in the nose, going to a more modern rail profile, with no edge in the back… just nice and soft the whole way, and not too full. I like the nose concave, blended softly into a flat bottom, then rolled vee in the back third or so.
If you’re a teenager, you’ll most likely be hard on your boards, so either go full on log with volan, or go light and “disposable” and plan on getting anew one in a few years.
