Hello everyone, I just finished boad #1 and wanted to say thanks for all the help! I researched for about a month before starting on the board.I dont think it would have went so well without all your help. Of course its not perfect by any means but I think maybe a B,B+ for my first board. The board is 6’2 x 20" x 2 1/2. I made the board for my 62 year old father inlaw, die hard surfer for 40 years. He pretty much only rides longboards. I let him try a few of my 5’6’s to 5’9’s and he has a hell of time on the take off. Plus he said he hated all the paddling, so thats why i made the board with plenty of volume. I lowered the front rocker to 4 1/2" and the rear to 2" hoping to give it some speed on our small mushy Florida surf. Nose is 13 1/2" and the tail is 15 1/2". Slight single concave, nothing fancy.Tryd to make a big buy groveler. Of course its been flat since finished so hoping to give it a try tomorrow am. Will post back a ride report. I found the glassing to be the most stressful as I was worried about time. The top did go a little smoother than the bottom. Ive gotta say im hooke already.Board number 2 is shaped and I will glass this weekend. Thanks again swaylockers for all the great advice, MItch
Thanks a lot guys for the kind words. And Wouter for getting the pics the right size. Looking forward to a test ride in the am. Will report back. Thanks again, later!
Ok got a chance to ride Sat.and Sun. Now the surf was only 2-3 and a little soft but had a blast on the board. Definitely has plenty of drive and float. Seemed to hold good speed in the flats. I gave him a set of standard fcs m5’s with the board, but I found switching the center fin to a m3 really loosened the tail up. I have to say it rides pretty much like I was expecting and hoping it would. Great groveler for our Florida waves. My father inlaw really had a blast on the board so I guess thats all that matters. He was hooting and hollaring all weekend. Thanks again fellas for all the great help and input!
