First Post, First project, epoxy resin swirl big fish

Super nice board, especially for your first. Like the red and black, will probably shine like crazy when you’re done. I’m curious, did you make your own tool of some sort to trace the deck for the cutlap? Doing the cutlap was the hardest thing I found when doing resin tint swirls.

Keep more pics and posts coming, great post!

Original Sin,

Thanks!

I started out making a tool, but then marty brought his over (that he made) and we used that to mark it.

We did find that the 30" cloth just made it to the wide point of the cutlaps (Just! so it’s good we didn’t make them any wider)

I put in the FCS plugs the other day and did a final hot/gloss coat last night.

this morning I put in the leash plug.

I’ll try and post pics tonight when I get home from work.

Our shore ice finally melted out here, so we should be able to give this board a test run by the end of the week!

Image link is updated every 10 minutes, there are shore icebergs showing in Grand Haven when I posted this… but Holland 20 miles south is clear of Ice.

I can’t wait…

Mike

Finally Finished!

We finished the hot coat, and then I did the gloss coat on the bottom.

Then wetsanded it from 400 to 600, and next stop was to 1500, but I opted for the 2 coats of clear acrylic instead of the sanded finish and Voila!

It came out great by my first project standards.

Learned a ton along the way, and ended up with a new board to boot…

Super great special thanks to Marty, without whose help, I am sure I’d have a nasty piece of epoxy coated foam.

And many thanks to the Swaylocks crew and contributors!

Thank You!

Now for some wax, and we are ready to go… Maybe Monday?

No symptoms of the fascination lessening…
