Made my first quad (10th board) and would love to hear any comments/suggestions for moving forward…
Really really enjoy the way it surfs, the design theory was to marry the front end of a fish with a round pin to keep it tighter in the pocket, and after a handful of surfs on it, seems like mission accomplished. Bottom is single concave to double through the fin cluster…

Thanks for taking a look!

I saw a ton of boards like this around Santa Barbara when I visited. Looks fun. Shape and glassing look clean in that picture.
Thanks!
Here’s a good pic of the fins, made 'em out of plywood…

Ya, can’t wait to get SB good on this one, just finished it too late for this season but maybe when the souths start up I’ll be able to get over to north SB a few times this summer…
Thanks!

I think it looks great! 10th board wow… love the fins and hope you don’t mind but im going to bite that idea.
the wide point looks high(but i cant tell the size of the board). How big is it? great job
Here is one of mine with the same design. 5’8" x 20" x 2.25"
size is 6’3"x 19 7/8" x 2 3/8"
wide point is forward of center, which was intentional, but i am curious how it would ride with the widepoint further back. i wanted it to paddle like a beast, so i kept a lot of foam under the chest.
glad you dig it!

btw, i like the look of yours as well… were you planning on making it a quad?
Great looking boards ! I did something similar 5’11" x 20" , stuck my fish template and wide tailed shortboard templates together. Paddles brilliantly but I found the Tail area too large for turning the board tightly and and freely so I think how dutch808 has done the tail should work nicely, id love to make another with some wings or just a really pulled in tail…
thanks!
for me the tail is pulled in plenty but that’s probably because i haven’t ridden a “short board” type board in about 5 years… so it feels extra-snappy to me…
but once i get used to this one, it could be interesting to go narrower… the wings idea has always intrigued me, as has just a pronounced bump…
Sorry for the slow response. I made mine a thruster, but have a quad with the same template. I wanted to be able to put more power in the turn so i did not go with the quad. I love quads but find them a little too loose in the lip. Also dont need the down the line speed for the spots it was made for. It is a blend of my first templates, which was made by bending trim board around nails to get the curve. You can still see some of the kinks in the curve by the nose. We can it the “hogg” cause it paddles so good you catch more than your share when riding it…
I bet yours will do the same… funny how we have been doing shapes like this for years, but now that slater rides it everybody wants to ride them. I find them to be great to ride but not to look at… mine anyway… Ha ha
