i know that there are several post discussing the re-glassing of boards but i have absolutely no idea where to begin. i began surfing this summer when a friend was cleaning out his garage and found an old quiet flight board and asked if a wanted it. of course i took it and since have fell in love with surfing i bought another board a 7’6’’ fun shape (i live in jacksonville fl not many big swells during the summer). i have decided to re glass the quiet flight, it probably has a bit of foam damage, but i have heard that this would be the best way to learn to shape. like i said i have absolutely no idea where to begin so anything would help, if i need tools or anything like that i know a few shapers hear in town but would rather do it all by myself.
take a dremel tool and get an .5" radius cutting wheel. Follow the rail line right as it becomes flush to the bottom. cuz only through the glass. once thats done begin slowly peeling back the glass(may require heat). Dry out the whole thing and sand away a all discolored or bad foam. Fill all voids with q-cell and lam resin and lastly good luck. Ive taken up a similar project and its all about patience. Ill post back with some pictures as i progress
Wayull… as you’re just starting surfing and all, why not get some basic skills out of the way first by fixing the board ya have and getting the fiberglassing skills down. Then, you have the idea and you can get a blank or two and futz with it to your heart’s content, and you won’t be constrained by the shape of the foam under the glass.
Lot cheaper too. Take it in easy bites, ya know? Rome wasn’t burnt in a day. Plus, 99 out of 100 reshapes I have seen turned out badly, and the one was meant to be a paipo board anyways.
