first repair

Ok, Ive been asked to fix a board. This is my first fix, so I need a little help. When I reglass, how much of the hotcoat do I need to take off? Just a little, or do I need to go all the way down to the weave before I can glass over it? That was pretty much the only thing I didnt get. Thanks for the help.

I usually rough up the hotcoat a little bigger than the glass patch which is a little bigger than the hole I’s fixing. That way there’s a quarter inch or so of resin as a buffer while fairing the new glass patch into the old hot coat. You’ll probably end up sanding more of the surrounding area while fairing. As far as depth goes. I usually leave as much strength intact as possible by not sanding solid material to any real depth. That Help? Good Luck.

ya got your filled hole, you want to take down the fiberglass around the ding straight down to the original cloth, time to bust out the grinder, if you dont have some either a sanding block and 50 grit paper should do it. so that way when you glass it sand it it becomes flush with the grind down zone outside of the ding, this website taught me, might just do it fer you. corbdawg. you.http://www.murphysurfboards.com/dings.html
