Just got into the shaping game because when I cant buy it I build it. Ive been surfing my entire life and got bit by the collecting bug. For some reason I just dont ride anything modern so I decided im going to make classic shapes. I really like the look of the sharp rails on the boards I made but ofcourse I know they’re going to be very strange to surf. The short board is a 7’ template of a 60s G&S SS Model. The second is a 9’1" that I just hand drew out. Has concave from nose to tail. Please no hard criticism im just experimenting and I no my glass job sucked. I learned that I dont like free laps AT ALL. Ill take the time to do clean cut laps on future boards.
The longboard is glassed too just dont have pics yet***
Interesting concept. I know you will like what the front bevel does. Not sure about the bevel at the tail area, but we might all learn something new. A ride report with pictures would be nice.
I cant give any ride report which sucks:/ I just got acl reconstruction surgery and cant surf till december. I graduate high school this week so after all that craziness is over I can sit down with guys who ride these boards and see what they think! And ill get their observations up here!
Damn anota, that’s a tough break. Get after the PT, swim, etc to keep the shoulders/back strong. Congratulations on graduation from high school, too. Mike
ACL surgery sucks. i had mine done a couple years ago when i was still in highschool. 2 years later and im back in the water surfing better than i ever have. like rooster said, keep your upper body strong, it’ll help alot when you get back in the water. oh, and keep shaping! those boards look great for your first ones, way better than my firsts.
I’m not sure where you’re located? But find a break w gentle surf until your body recoups… I’m having to adjust after living inland for five yrs…I have to probably surf small beach breaks, and surf other less powerful spots until I get in shape… I got back to shaping bcuz It’s what I dabbled w briefly before I moved inland for my job. Long story.prior to that I had five boards, I surfed every day etc… but im older now, and by the time I moved I was surfing once a week or two…it’s strange how life changes from person to person. That Said, if you were out n Monterey bay I could steer you to a few easy does it breaks that could primer you for more…whatever you do, do it on your
Terms. It’s great you shaped a fun look n board!
its been awhile since ive been on the site but here are ride reports!!
Single fin pintail- have a greenough flexfin in and gets into waves easily, floats on the lip until it drops down the face and accelarates extremely quite. with the channel from nose to tail the only friction on the hull is the fin. cant snap on the lip easily cause the tail is very wide. punchy waves are best
Longboard- picks a lower line when noseriding but very stable on the nose in kneehigh mush. knifey rails and channels hold it too the face really well on bigger drop-ins but too much rocker so it doesnt accelarate like the shortboard
