First surfboard need help

hello,
I´m a new user from Germany (Berlin) and would like to build my first surfboard from solid Balsa.
I´m a long-boarder and want to try a more agile board, and want to build it for myself.
Our surfing conditions aren 't really good in north europe - confused and small waves, most wind waves.
So i look for a template for 7 ' wombat or the like with some volume.
May someone help me, it would be great?
Thanks a lot!

Wow, solid balsa! Are you buying a balsa blank? It’s gonna be heavy (compared to foam), if you don’t chamber it.

Are you wanting a computer file, or what?

There are free templates available at blending curves.com, there are some eggs in that length.

hi huck, thanks for your comment.  i 've some balsa blanks and plan to chamber the board. i know blending curves, but there are only the outlines, nothing about the rocker. Looking for a scale drawing from boardcad or similar with a side perspektive.  I 've seen a wombat in a shop and think it’s a nice board for my purpose.

Maybe look in the US blanks catalog and check out the rocker numbers listed on their blanks? That’s a starting point at least.

good idea, it’s a starting point, thank you!

hi twain!

welcome to the forum! I’m from southern germany and i’ve shaped a handful of boards so far, so only amateur advice from me…

wow, shaping a solid balsa board sounds like a challenging task for a first timer! maybe you consider trying your shaping skills on a foam blank first? i started with shaping a blank out of building material foam and a recycled windsurfer - not much money and material is lost that way and you learn A LOT on your first shapes!

anyway, a good starting point to get rockers and outlines is this here: http://www.atuacores.com/surfshop/5-pains-2d-sur-mesure-a-shaper?sd=start

you can start with their models and tweak them. Their rockers and foils are good, don’t change them too much! Then you download your files and print out the numbers for both outline and rocker in cm there. If you transfer the numbers to a piece of masonite (cheap: Schrankrückwand at Baumarkt), connect them with a bending stick, cut them out und sand wobbles you get a nice template.

post pics!
