I just started my first short board.I have made a few retro style boards but I’m not riding anything like that anymore,so I thought I would try my luck at a thruster. So far I have only cut out the outline, the dimensions are going to be 5’-10"x19"x2 1/4.Any input on bottom contours or rails would be appreciated.I will keep everyone posted on the progress.
rob
nice outline
slight concave forward/mid
transition to dbl concave through fins
tail flat
I will have to see that soon
Thanks Ken. Come and check it out when I have a little more done. You coming down to Saced Craft this weekend?
no sacred
going to the desert to camp and ride
What Ken said… or single concave to flat behind the fins.
Rails: No tuck behind the fins, slightly tucked with a hard edge at the fins, fading to tucked soft edge up to the wide point, blended soft and round the rest of the way. With the board bottom up, look at it from the tail. The edge should start at the outside of the board at the tail, then roll over onto the bottom and fade out as you go up toward the nose.
Thanks NJ surfer. That info on the rails is very helpful.

NJ surfer, you have made things so much easier for me, thanks a million. Very simple, but explains a lot, thanks again.
I finally finished shaping. The bottom is a single concave into a double concave through the fins. The rails are slightly tucked with a hard edge last 12 inches. Its time for glass!!!I want to keep it light so I’m going to go double 4 on top with a single 4 on the bottom. Thanks for all your help.
I just finished my radical 80’s art work, and lammed the top and bottom.
Ahh man where is the HOTPINK- JK- Cool Job-.

Rob

nice job
Thanks Ken, Grant and I really liked that resin work on the quad you brought in.
thanks
finish glassin up that baby and tell how she rides
hey mr Rad, don’t forget the fin configuration: 11" and 3.5" is a standard start
and keep in mind the Thruster config is so bloody GOOD it’ll make just about any board work OK … it took the world’s best surfboard designers a very long time just to get over that rather sobering fact
have fun!
Rob,
Nick’s correct on the fin set-up,but if you use an ajustable system like Red-X,Lokbox or Probox you can dial it in a bit better.
Nice paint works, easy and eye appealing.
Herb
Thanks for the advice Nick. The fins are on!!!
Board is finished, and ready to SHRED!!!
