This will be my first time making a fish. i’ve read a lot about them in the archives but am still really confued about the fin set-up and widths. I have an old G&S transitional fish w/ a single fin and about a 4/5 in. swallow tail. its awesome. most days im catching more then the longboarders are. the turns, though, are pretty drawn out. i dont know too much about fish but im hoping to get it just as pivotal as a thruster. as far as shape and fin placement i have to idea where to go. i’m 5’7 and 125pds.and i tend to be heavy on my back foot. any advice would be aweosme, thanks.
went thru the same thinking very recently - go with a twinzer or quasi-twinzer with small trailer…there’s not a great deal of info with either design so youre kind of rolling the dice. If you like the feel of a thruster then deviating significantly from it will yield different results…basic design theory.
Here’s what I plan on doing with my rocket fish (almost glassed).
Five-finner-semi-twinzer-thruster…main fronts (longer base) set further back than normal thruster, about 10.5" (on a 6’2) and mid/heavy toe. Will be using a mini-canard about 1.5" x 1.5". Then fine tune the whole thing with a small trailer. The canard/twinzer is more “efficient” than a standard 3 or Twin, the trailer stabilizes and it’s optional. Im only guessing it will work as planned. I have tested many different fin setups and I think it will work…rolling the dice myself. Good luck.
thanks man. your board sounds really nice.
here’s the dimentions, 5’9 N 14’’ WP 22’’ T 14’‘, 6’’ deep swallow w/ 10’’ tip to tip. i’m still torn between a twinzer and quad. i’m leaning more towards a twinzer. what would be a good placement/size for the fins?
