Will RR epoxy saturate through 3 layers of 6oz. E. Ambient temp will probably be approx. 55F. I’ve got a hot box rigged up for the cure but…I’m a little concerned about the lam. Should I wet out one or two layers separatly? Will I have time to do all that on a 9’4"? I’ll be warming the epoxy and blank a bit and using fast hardner.
I would recommend trying to get the room up to 65 or 70 degrees. Otherwise you may have some blush issues.
Also, you may want to layout the three layers of 6oz. Roll up one layer while you wet out the 1st two, let the resin soak in. Then un-roll the third and add a little more resin for full wet-out and lap the rails.
Check out plus one’s web site. They show some pictures of this technique. Worked well for me.
Warm up the room, blank and cloth, for sure, as well as the resin. 55 degrees is way too cold for good laminating. Just make sure you’re working with gently cooling materials, and don’t put the thing in the box until it’s cured enough to handle. You’ll get outgassing that will kill everything you’ve done so far.
If you have slow hardener, use it. But I think you’ll be OK with fast. Be sure you mix enough resin, too. In this situation, I wouldn’t skimp.
Be patient and let that resin soak in before you go pushing it around or you’ll get bubbles in the weave. Work slowly so you don’t build up a froth.
Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately the garage has a vented roof. 55F is as good as it gets. The “hot box” I made is more like a vented coffin that fits over the board while it is on the stands. I can easily regulate the temp. ambient-80 with the board in it. The plan was to lam and immediately get the thing in the box. I was hoping to minimize outgassing by pre-warming everything. I’ll definately try to split the layers up and hopefully additive F is the miracle Greg L. says it is. NJ says “Be patient”…I’ll try, though panic and profanity have typically strved me well.
