My lap area is pretty bad. some air bubbles from them not wrapping all the way around correctly. Im using epoxy RR on a pu blank. The air bubles are pretty major so i know they have to be fixed. I started sanding them down and im hitting the foam in alot of spots, so now im wondering what to do. I have a blank fully laminated (top and bottom with really bad rails. I was thinking I should just sand down the rails and then reglass patches along the rail, I just wanted to see if anybody else might have some suggestions. This is my first time glassing and ive already learned 100 things i would do differently on the next one. Thanks
You can sand and patch and use more materials and time in the process. Or you can just leave it as is and go surfing, saving you more resin and cloth for your next board. It’s up to you which one is more worthwhile.
I just did my first lam a few weeks ago and I had minor bubbles at my laps. I chose to sand them out and patch. If it is worth doing it is worth doing right. I am not sure how major yours are but I would sand and patch.
I wish I really understood the importance of clean laps the first go-round.
* Just want to add in that I don't think deanbo's suggestion is not right, just I would go the extra mile for all the time I put in.
Thanks guys. I just decided to sand them back down. I really wanted this first board to turn out ok at the least so im gonna repatch the rails. The bubbles was pretty bad. Hopefully the rail patching turns out better then the first go at it.
